WOODMOOR:

Boundaries: University Boulevard, Colesville Road (rt 29), Beltway 495 and Northwest Branch Park
Woodmoor and Indian Spring Village are the largest of the Legal Subdivisions in the Neighborhood known as Woodmoor.  Woodmoor's first homes were built in the late 1930s.  In the late 1930's, Indian Spring Country Club (now the Silver Spring YMCA) and Argyle Country Club (now Sligo Creek Public Golf Course) were a big draw for this quiet suburban "bedroom" community.  Saint Bernadette's Church and the opening of Saint B's school drew many young families to the Community.

The cool, art deco style, circa 1940's Woodmoor Shopping Center at the edge of this beautiful neighborhood was recently restored.  The medium sized, 3 story Shopping Center still has quaint, locally owned well known and long lasting mom and pop shops like the Woodmoor Pastry Shop, Santucci's Italian Deli, the Watch Pocket and Hoover Fisher's Florist to name a few.  The Silver Spring Stage has been operating for many years in the basement of the Woodmoor Shopping Center that  I hear, was once a bowling alley.  More well know chains such as a CVS Drugstore, a Starbucks and Subway are sprinkled in this mix of stores. A new Tuesday Morning Outlet opened in Woodmoor Shopping Center in the Fall of 2007.

A pretty Neighborhood of 700+ Single Family Homes located in the Four Corners Area of Silver Spring, Md in 20901.  Woodmoor brings to mind, older charming Cape Cods, Colonials mixed with a few post-war Ramblers and Split Levels on neighborly, shady, tree lined streets.

Indian Spring:

Indian Spring is one of the most popular family friendly neighborhoods in Silver Spring.

Homes in Indian Spring were originally built as Golf Course or Country Club Homes. The area was developed around the Old Indian Spring Country Club & Golf Course in the late 1930's. When Country Club moved out to Layhill Road in mid 1950's, the grounds and buildings became the home of the Silver Spring YMCA

The Indian Spring Neighborhood is located just inside the Beltway in Silver Spring, Md 20901, east of Colesville Road (Route 29). The southern border is Franklin Avenue and the west, University Boulevard.

The houses are charming  colonials, cape cods and ramblers built from the early 1940's through the mid 1950s.  There are just over 800 single family homes in the Indian Spring subdivisions.

The Indian Spring Community as listed in the Washingtonian one of the "Best Places to Live" (2005).  "This is the kind of inner-Beltway suburb that downtown Silver Spring was revitalized for. The professionals living here may have families, but they're not so suburbanized that they don't enjoy the art films, live music, and trendy food that are trademarks of the new Silver Spring."  - Washingtonian Magazine.

The Indian Spring Community has family-oriented social events for neighbors to meet and an email group for neighbors to keep up on the latest news, events, announcements and learn about local services. Some of the Neighborhood events are:  (the ever popular annual) "Taste of Indian Spring", neighborhood clean up, yard sale, Fall Fest, July 4th Celebration, Holiday Celebrations and Holiday House Tours.  Find out more about the Indian Spring Community by visiting their website www.Iscaonline.com
